This course is for people who work, or want to work, at a trade level in the arboriculture sector of the horticulture industry, especially people who already have qualifications in amenity horticulture.
In conjunction with relevant practical experience, the course enables you to develop sound underpinning knowledge and a broad range of practical skills required to cultivate, establish, maintain and care for trees and shrubs in public and private gardens, public parks and reserves, bushland, recreational facilities, housing estates, institutions and industrial complexes.

- Implement tree care and maintenance programs

- Undertake complex tree climbing and aerial rescue

Course Description:
This national qualification is one of four available from the Amenity, Horticulture Training Package (RTF03).
This course has been developed to provide workers in the parks and gardens industry with the latest skills, knowledge and thinking for existing or aspiring team leaders to expand their capabilities. Units within the course have been designed for application in Arboriculture contexts.
Career Opportunities:
This course provides participants with the skills, attributes and knowledge to take more responsibility in the workplace through leadership roles.
Pathways:
By successfully completing the certificate 3 in Horticulture (Arboriculture), participating are eligible for selection into Certicificate 4 (Arboriculture).
Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements to commence this qualification.
Induction & Enrolment:
A representative of Choice Training Solutions will meet with you at an agreed time to induct you into this course. Completion of the enrolment documentation immediately following your induction is standard practice.

A copy of the handbook will be given to you at your enrolment. Please discuss any questions you may have in reltation to these policies and procedures with your trainer or supervisor.
Skills Recognition / Prior Learning
Previous learning undertaken at another learning organisation may entitle a participant entry in the program with some credits. Alternatively, if a participant can provide evidence that shows that they have the required skills and knowledge they may be able to have that learning recognised without having to complete all of the training offered by Choice Training Solutions and the employer.

Delivery Method
Delivery will comprise supervised on-the-job training plus a structure classroom activity as per the training plan or modules can be done via distance learning.
Assessment Method
Assessment will be undertaken in accordance with the relevant applicable legislation.
A variety of assessment methods may be used including:
- Workbook assessment tasks
- Simulation
- Demonstration
- Oral and written activities.
- Completion of workbook exercises
Course Duration
This course will be delivered and assessed in the workplace for 1 to 2 hours every 3 to 4 weeks for approximately 9 to 12 months. Each trainee has up to 24 months to complete.
We are able to accelerate the duration of the course under certain circumstances.
Qualifications
As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion participants will be awarded the Certificate III in Horticulture Arboriculture.
Arboriculture
Certificate III in Horticulture (Arboriculture) - RTF30203
This course, in conjunction with appropriate practical experience, provides learners with relevant skills and knowledge to enable them to work under limited supervision in the arboriculture industry, as a skilled operator or tradesperson. In addition to developing the skills in the arboriculture sector, learners will develop skills in a broad range of horticultural practices. Learners will be able to carry out occupational health and safety procedures and assess environmental implications of their work.
Completion of this course satisfies the requirements of the Vocational Training Order under Section 6 of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 in relation to the recognised trade vocation of Horticulture Arboriculture.
Two alternative pathways are provided to meet these requirements; one of which has been developed to satisfy the specific needs of the Australian Arboriculture Industry.
As a consequence, apprentices in VIC & NSW will achieve units of competency which are additional to the national requirements.
To receive RTF30203 Certificate III in Horticulture (Arboriculture) learners must achieve 16 units of competency as specified in the Amenity Horticulture Training Package, selecting 7 units from Group A, including the one (1) designated compulsory unit, 6 units of competency from Group A and/or B, and 3 units from Groups A, B and/ or C, as described in the packaging rules for RTF30203.
At least 12 of the units of competency presented for this qualification must relate to arboriculture work procedures, activities or contexts. In addition, at least 12 of the total number of units selected to make up this qualification must be clearly aligned to Certificate III outcomes.
