Workers in this occupational group work primarily in residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual’s personal care and/or other activities of living.

CHC30102 Certificate III in Aged Care Work

13 Competency Units are required for award of this qualification.

Compulsory Units: 9 Compulsory Units

  • Provide support to an older person
  • Provide personal care
  • Orientation to aged care work
  • Support the older person to meet their emotional and psychosocial needs
  • Provide care support which is responsive to the specific nature of dementia
  • Comply with information requirements of the aged care and community care sectors
  • Participate in safety procedures for direct care work
  • Participate in the work environment
  • Communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues

Elective Units: 4 electives must be chosen to create the training package.

Electives should be selected from the list below although 2 units may be selected from units packaged in other Certificate III level qualifications in the Community Services Training Package or Health Training Package.

  • Assist in the provision of an appropriate environment
  • Support the older person to maintain their independence

  • Work effectively in a cross cultural context with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations
  • Collect and maintain linen stocks at user-locations
  • Provide personal laundry service to clients, patients and others
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain clean environment
  • Perform general cleaning tasks in a clinical setting
  • Handling waste in a health care environment
  • Deliver care services using a palliative approach
